Welcome
To the fun and Adventure of Cub Scouting!!!!!
Scouting is Family Oriented
First, please know that Scouting is for the whole family. We include siblings in our activities as much as possible. You should, of course, make sure to watch your younger children and remove them from a situation where they are distracting the scouts from the purpose of the activity. Also, as your son’s primary “Akela”, or leader, you will be working with him on his advancements and other awards. Many skills he will learn in scouting are family oriented and require at home participation.
The Cub Scout Den
Your son is a member of a Cub Scout den. The den meets once per week and is led by a den leader, usually a parent. The boys in his den are going to be the same age and are all working toward the same rank patches. Den meetings have games, crafts, songs, ceremonies, and lots of fun.
The Cub Scout Pack
Your son is a member of a Cub Scout pack. The pack is all the dens together. It is led by a cubmaster, who is a volunteer, also usually a parent. The first Thursday of every month we have a pack meeting, bringing everyone together to celebrate our scouts’ accomplishments. The pack meeting has games, songs, skits, ceremonies, guest speakers and presentations of awards the boys earned during the month. It is a time to celebrate their accomplishments. All family members are encouraged to attend.
The Pack Leadership
The pack is run by a committee of parents, who are all volunteers. The committee selects leaders, performs record keeping, manages finances, finds meeting places, orders badges, maintain pack equipment, helps train leaders, and recognizes leaders. They also plan all the pack events and activities.
